What resin-bound is
Natural stone is mixed with a clear resin and trowelled out to an even depth. Because the stone is coated rather than glued to the top, the surface stays porous and water drains straight through. Resin-bonded surfacing, where stones are scattered over a resin layer, is not the same and does not drain.
Slopes
Resin-bound can be laid on gentle and moderate slopes. On steeper drives we'll talk through whether it's the right choice, and we may adjust the blend or add an anti-slip finish. Very steep drives are usually better in block paving or tarmac.
The base
Resin needs a stable, permeable base, normally porous asphalt or no-fines concrete over a compacted stone sub-base. We only lay over an existing drive if it is sound and can drain, which is uncommon on older Durham drives that have settled.
Colours
Bronze, gold, buff and silver blends are all available, with UV-stable resin to stop colour change. A block border adds a crisp finish.
Weather
Resin must be laid in dry conditions. On a wet day we'll wait for better weather rather than compromise the finish.
